Keep moisture content at acceptable levels

Concrete may be strong, but that doesn’t mean that it’s an easy material to work with. It can last for the long-term but only under the right circumstances. For one the right level of surface preparation is necessary before moving forwards. Churchill CT are experts in this area. Therefore, we are the company to call if you wish to get the most out of your materials.

Moisture content is very important

When it comes to surface preparation, there are many factors that you should be aware of. Moisture content in particular is very important. Concrete must be mixed properly so it carries more water than is necessary to hydrate your cement. During the initial 30 days it is wise to preserve this by using fine sprays, curing agents, plastic sheets, and burlap covers.

Following this, ventilating air cures the concrete. As a result the surplus moisture can evaporate. The majority of architectural coatings are breathers. Consequently, you can install them whilst the evaporation is taking place without harming the finish.

Beware of vapour barriers

Something you should know is that nearly every high build and high performance coating will act as a vapour barrier. This means that they prevent the passage of moisture, either vapour or liquid. As such, moisture content must be brought down to an appropriate level before you apply the seal coat. Moisture meters are helpful in these situations and can prove indispensable in the hands of trained professionals.
